When we write about how companies or individuals are using social media in their marketing strategies, it’s usually in the context of a business to consumer relationship. However, business-to-business (B2B) marketing is really getting a boost from social media as well. According to a recent study, 60% of B2B marketers plan to increase social media marketing spending this year.
As we discussed earlier this week in the context of PR professionals and social media, even non-B2B-centric services like Twitter and Facebook can still offer great opportunities for B2B shops. Sometimes, the approach is the same as it would be in non-B2B marketing, sometimes it can be very different.
Figuring out how to best implement and harness social media in the course of B2B marketing can be difficult but we’ve put together ten tips to help get you on the right track!
- Use Twitter Effectively
- Figure Out Your ‘Social Voice’
- Take Advantage of Opportunities on LinkedIn
- Start a Blog….etc.

Viral traffic tips to get more visitors from Twitter
We must admit it, any community building effort takes time. And Twitter is not different. You need to nurture your followers, provide excellent content, build value and most especially be genuine.
There are some shortcuts however, and I would like to share some tips with you.
- Write content as a guest blogger – Here are some advantages:
a) you would be building relationships with the blog owner,
b) increased traffic to your website,
c) increased RSS subscriptions to your blog
d) more links pointing to your blog hence more search engine rankings and traffic
e) more participation from the community in the form of blog comments. - Send some DMs to Twitter Friends – just be careful not to over do with this technique as it may backfire. Be reasonable.
- Ask people to re-tweet your article/blog post – you must use caution here too. Usually if the content is good enough (or exceptional) you would not need to ask for this.
- Tell powerful Twitter users about your exceptional content – (the material must truly be exceptional) and related to that particular Twitter user in some way.
- Do not forget to say thank you to those that take the time to help you – often overlooked but you must not forget this step.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes 🙂
