PageRank sculpting – recent changes (end of 2009)

I am assuming you know a little so let’s get started:
DoFollow – NoFollow: all the same now
Matt himself has warned us that things have changed in the way they treat the NoFollow Tag so now both DoFollow and NoFollow links are treated the same way (as far as links to internal pages are concerned).
However the good folks at Google also mentioned that they still want you to use the NoFollow tag if you have “Sponsor Links” on the page to link to the advertiser. If you want to control the flow of PageRank on your site they suggest NOT to include links to less important internal pages FROM your homepage.
While that works it may present some usability issues for some of you.
I have never cared much about PageRank so I have never done any PageRank sculpting nor did I suggested to any of my clients but to some of you that are a little paranoid with this, then you can use a Javascript drop some of those less important internal links and place it into a folder that is not indexed by the search engines to prevent this from happening.

- Web traffic tip (3): Use a high content_to_code ratio. You will get higher ranking if it has a lot of text relative to the amount of code. #
- Web traffic tip (2): The goal is to rank highly in the search engine results pages (SERPs) for those keywords. #
- Web traffic tip (1): use the google keyword tool to find key phrases that people have been using recently #
- Traffic tip (4): submit the PR on a Tuesday or Wednesday 🙂 #
- Traffic tip (3): include the keyword phrases in the first and last paragraph. Sprinkle it in but don’t go crazy with repetitions. #
- Traffic tip (3): keyword phrases with a competition of less than 30,000 (using quotes in your search query) in Google rank really well. #
- Traffic tip (2): title your press release with the keyword phrase that you want to rank for. #
- Traffic tip (1): Use Webwire.com to rank on the front page of Google within 24 hours. #

SEM: what's new
I have heard that Google Doesn’t Want Searchers To Find SEO Companies and Web Designers to the point that they are hiding the “local results”.
For example if you search for “SEO Vancouver” (with or without quotes) this is what you find. As you can see the local results have disappeared.
Unfortunately you have just lost a few opportunities to show your link in the local results. Seems to me that this is a disservice instead of a help to the visitor.
But, who am I to make such a statement? I do not have access to the data they have and they may be right.
Time will tell.
And here’s what happens when you search for “SEO in Vancouver” (with or without quotes):
if you add “in” to “SEO Vancouver” then the local results are back. Isn’t that funny?
That is bad news. Based on what the company says it seems like the decision was made because of user intention.
Go figure…
Another reason to join the Social Media revolution? Looks like during the holidays Facebook had more visitors than Google. I’ll let you (my dear readers) decide.

Distorting Saturn Rings
It’sthe 1st day of the year 2010. I do not feel like writing today. I feel very lazy and I feel like watching inspirational movies. I posted one a few minutes ago then I stumbled upon this one. I thought it was pretty cool too so I decided to share this one too.
It’s a a quick video of the Sol System and distorting the rings of Saturn with a neptune sized planet.
