Here’s what’s happening in the world of Search

  1. Google does change the real time search results based on your word order. If you want to be found for: red wine, make sure you tweet using both red wind and wine red. Possibly in 2 different tweets.
  2. How to turn personalized  search off if needed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKuG2M6R4VM&feature=player_embedded
  3. If you want to search for PowerPoint presentations give SlideFinder a try. I have tried it myself and found it very useful.
  4. Yahoo Search Marketing now allows you to import Adwords PPC campaigns. It makes sense so that you do not duplicate your work to get only 10% increase in traffic.
  5. According to Nielsen’s research Google has more than 72% of “Search” market share. Other sources were giving Facebook more page views than Google. In all fairness we have to say that the 2 things are not related because you go to Google to search for information and to Facebook to socialize.
  6. A good way to have your tweets showing up in the Google SERPS (Search engine results pages) is to have more and better followers than your competitors.
  7. From Google apps: :We’re happy to announce that over the next few weeks we will be rolling out the ability to upload, store and organize any type of file in Google Docs. (Jan 12 2010)”

That’s it for today.

Happy Sunday !

The Best Social Bookmarking Strategy

When it comes to Marketing your Website, using Social Media is King. With the recent rise of Social Media, Marketing your Website has become an ever changing business, adapting to new Technologies and techniques as they arrive. It is now more important than ever to have a Plan or Strategy in place before you set out on any Online Marketing ventures. Using a Social Bookmarking Strategy can and will save you time and money.

So what is the best Social Bookmarking Strategy for marketing your Website? Well, I don’t know what the BEST one is – it depends on how that word is defined, but I can share with you the strategy that I personally use to market my Websites that has proved itself a success to me.

First, I create profiles at all of the social bookmarking sites that I wish to include in my Social Bookmarking Strategy. This can be tedious and time consuming, so if you have the funds do yourself a favor and buy some automated Marketing Software Strategy software to speed up the process for you.

Once I have that complete I social bookmark the main page of my Website that I am promoting with a Keyword Rich Title. I focus my efforts on 1 Keyword at a time, so choose just 1 Keyword to market for now (I personally recommend using Keyword Finding Software to find money making Keywords that are low competition and high converting. Never underestimate the Keyword Research process). Also include your Keyword Phrase in your Tags and choose tags that are popular and relevant to your site.

Now that you have Bookmarked your main Website at all the various Bookmarking Sites it is time to move on to bookmarking all sites that are linking to yours. These can be other Websites that you own, or sites of friends, family, link trading partners, etc. Be sure you bookmark the page on their site that is pointing to yours, as this is what will help Google and other Search Engines find your Site.

The next thing I usually do in my Social Bookmarking Strategy is create a Web 2.0 Property. I personally prefer Squidoo Lenses over any others. Simply go to Squidoo, create an account and place content from your site onto the personal Squidoo Lens page. Include at least one link on your Lens that points back to your main Website. Also, be sure to anchor this link with the Keyword Phrase you chose earlier.

Once you have made your Web 2.0 property that points back to your site it’s time to Bookmark it. You’re going to repeat the same process you did with submitting your main Website and submit your Squidoo Lens Site to the Bookmarking Sites with a Keyword Rich title, description and popular tags.

If you want to go above and beyond with your promotion you can also bookmark any RSS Feed Profiles or Article Profile pages you may have created that point back to your Site. In short, bookmark anything and everything that links to your Site. The easier you make it for Google to find your Website with your Keyword Phrase, the faster and more highly it will rank in search engine results.

  • Networking tip (1): don’t network with people you do not want to work with. #
  • Submit your article and get some contextual links: http://www.promotionhunter.com/ #
  • Real time Google’s rankings: it’s based on the number of followers. Easily manipulated (unfortunately). #
  • Google bot news page size limit: 256k… be careful not to exceed if you want to be indexed and enjoy the extra exposure. #

SEM News Jan 14th 2010

I have a few things to talk about today in this rainy and gray Thursday morning. Let’s go:

  1. Page size limit and Google News Bot
I have just heard that you need to have your articles/PR/News to be under 256k to be indexed by GoogleBot and included in Google News. Something to  pay attention to. If you are adding a few images to your article it may prevent you from showing up and you may not get the traffic and attention your news deserves.

If you want to read more, there is a thread here.

  2. Gooogle and China at was…
Yesterday Google made huge news announcing that they may leave the Chinese market and are no longer censoring search results in their chinese version of their search engine Google.cn. Millions of people from within the PRC have been reading and watching pages previously not available. The decision was made in retaliation from hacker attempts to have access to Chinese Political Activists email accounts.

In all fairness the PRC have announced an investigation and Google itself has not declared that the Chinese Government has participated/facilitated/allowed this to happen.

What do you think, should Google stay in this market or pull out altogether?

  3. Real time Rankings
How does Google ranks “real time” search results? Looks like they are doing it by looking at the number of followers you have.

Pretty much the same way they do with links (although the linking criteria is way more complicated: i.e.: qualty vs. quantity).

That’s it for today.

Meat and Potatoes for Your Affiliate Diet

Posted by Tom Kulzer (AWeber CEO)

Think of banner ads as the spice in your affiliate diet. Sprinkle them around, but for a heartier helping of sales, you’ll need something more solid! Learn to give your visitors longer, more descriptive pre-sales text. Revamp your affiliate advertising using these simple steps:

  1. Pull the Reader in
  2. Introduce the Product
  3. Explain the Product’s Significance
  4. Tell the Reader to Make a Purchase

Pull the Reader in

To convince your audience that your text is worth reading, make your first sentence or two very interesting. Make a bold statement, say something seemingly ridiculous, or appeal to your prospect’s emotional side. Then, tie this grabber in with the rest of your copy.

Introduce the Product

What is the product you’re advertising? What does it do? Directly after your grabber, give a compact explanation of your product. Keep this explanation short, while still being very clear. This should still be a very short section of your text.

Explain the Product’s Significance

What will it do for me?

By writing your own copy, you can directly target your unique audience. Make the most of this opportunity! Clearly explain how your readers will benefit from this product.

No one knows your audience like you do. Suggest a variety of product uses just for them, and give examples. This is the time for details – make this section long and rich.

Tell the Reader to Make a Purchase

You’ve come so far – you’ve laid out exactly what the product is and how it will help your unique audience. Now, seal the deal – tell your readers to purchase the product! Include your affiliate link in this section.

This step may sound strange, but it’s necessary. Often, people hear about a product and are genuinely interested, but fail to actually make a purchase. A clear call to a simple action cuts down on buyer ambivalence. Don’t be pushy – just change your verb tenses to the imperative. Instead of:

“If you think that you fit this profile, you might want to think about buying this product.”

Say: “Click here to order an account today.”

Drive Sales – Use Long Copy

If you don’t feel ready to write long copy yourself, ask your affiliate program manager for help! Many companies release well-written articles by respected authors that you can reprint free of charge.

The novelty of the Web is wearing off. People online now are busy. Surfers won’t make a purchase unless you make a great case for what they’ll get out of it. And you’re not going to do that with just a banner ad. Then it’s time to do your marketing and to attract web site traffic.

Now You Can Multiply Profits AND Automate Your Business
