Banned from adsense: how to avoid it from happening.

Quite a few people are making a good income (side or full-time) from Adsense ADS on their blogs/websites and nobody wants to loose it. However it is almost guaranteed that when you reach a certain CTR (click-through-rate) and/or a certain income a human being (not a machine) will review your website.

I have heard that there are 3 categories for spam:

  • Not Intended For Spam
  • Possibly Spam
  • Made to Spam

What is considered spam?

If your blogs has:

  1. ADS everywhere and,
  2. when going to another website it takes 3/4 clicks to get out or
  3. you have software that tries to install you are asking for trouble.

What one should do?

  • Read the terms and conditions
  • Work hard and do not cut corners
  • Be honest, do not steal content
  • Do not create sites made for Adsense
  • Create killer content
  • DO NOT CLICK on your ADS
  • Create tools people ACTUALLY like and will use
  • Do not link to or advertise illegal websites
  • De-clutter your posts/pages
  • Remove all pop-ups and pop-under

You have been advised  🙂

Google Social Search: tips and tutorials

When you are signed into your Google account, Google Social Search will help you find relevant information from people in your social circle (i.e.: friends and acquaintances).

For example if you are searching for a Mexican restaurant nearby then if Patty – hi Patty  we all know you like food 🙂 – has left a review somewhere on the web about a particular Mexican restaurant in Vancouver then it will appear more prominently in the search results.

You can join the experiment here: http://www.google.com/experimental/

You can watch a video by Maureen that demonstrates the features of Google Social Search in plain english. Awesome video by-the-way Maureen 🙂

The “special” results will show up at the bottom of the page in an area called “Results from people in your social circle.”

To filter your results to ONLY see comments from your circle of trust at the top of your search result page:

  1. Click on “Show Options” to open the Options Panel
  2. Click on “Social” and you are done:)
  3. If you don’t want to see the social results you either sign out from your Google account or leave the experiment

Your social circle is made of people in your Gmail contact list, people you follow on twitter and (not so surprisingly) people you are connected with in FriendFeed.

I think it’s a very useful feature as I tend to trust my friends opinion more so than the general public.

Market research tips

Here are a few tips ou can use to do your market research. Also do not forget to use our FREE Niche Market Finder. You will be able to download a PDF document with all your data. No email address required 🙂

Let’s go:

  • Use Google keywords research too to find keywords you may be using in your website/blog posts and also in your tweets.
  • Focus on keywords with little competition and where there is an intention to purchase. For example “buy red shirt” is an excellent example.
  • Make sure you pick keywords that will allow you to monetize the niche. i.e.: you want to be able to sell something to that audience; if there are no affiliate programs or it is difficult to get the products then you may want to go find another area.
  • Are there Google Adwords ADS for those keywords? If not then think again; it may be difficult to make any money in that niche.
  • Use Google Trends and Google Insight for search to identify patterns and trends within your niche. Is there a seasonality? Can you make money year-round?
  • Are people talking abut your products/services in the social media websites? If so then you may have good chances to grab that audience.
  • Use http://www.whostalkin.com/ and http://socialmention.com/ to find out more about the social media buzz for your products and services.
  • Try to uncover additional markets by using the following websites: http://spyfu.com/ and http://www.keywordspy.com/. Good luck !

How PageRank flows from Twitter and Facebook in Google's rankings

Here’s the first video from Matt’s new webmaster series. It’s about PageRank, Twitter and Facebook. Interesting but…hardly new.

Here’s a brief summary if the video:

  1. Links from reputable websites are always best.
  2. Re Facebook: only links that can be fetched MAY pass pagerank
  3. Links from Twitter are NoFollow so no worry there…it will not help with PR
  4. All links are treated equally, whether they are coming from a wordpress blog or an .edu domain (I have my reservations here as there is evidence of the contrary).

I always enjoy watching Matt’s videos, I hope you will too 🙂
